frequently asked questions

Is it osteopathy safe?

Osteopathy is a gentle and safe form of manual therapy.  It works with the body's natural health and repair systems.  Osteopathy is a recognised and regulated profession so you can be confident of the same safeguards as if you visit your doctor of dentist. More information about osteopathy can be found here.

How long do I need to wait for an appointment?

We are usually able to see you within a couple of days, and in many cases an appointment on the day will be possible as we keep some appointment times open for urgent cases. You can find available appointment times on our online booking page.  For urgent appointments please call for availability.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

Osteopaths are primary health professionals so a referral from your GP is not necessary, although your GP may choose to refer you.

How much does it cost?

You can access a free exploratory consultation.   An initial appointment costs £65 and a follow up appointment £50.  See our price list for online video consultation and sports massage prices.  Home visit prices may be dependant on location.  Please call to discuss your requirements.

What does treatment feel like?

Osteopathic treatment can vary depending on the issue being addressed.  It can be soothing or stimualtory and will include active work and exercise in many cases.  Regardless of the aim it remains a safe and gentle healthcare apporach.

How many sessions will I need?

Again this depends on the nature of the problem however a positive change can generally be expected in 4-5 sessions, some will require 2 or 3.  In all cases you will be given a prognosis in the initial session and we will constantly review your progress.

I am not able to get out easily.  Can I still access your help?

Yes.  We recognise that people may not be able to easily attend our clinic for a number of reasons and we feel it is important that you are still able to get the care you need.

We offer online video consultations for this purpose, which can be booked via our booking page here, and also offer home visits.  For more information about video consultations please visit our telehealth page.  For home visits please call us on 07738017206 to discuss your requirements.

Do you have an infection control policy?

Yes.  Given the current situation with Covid-19 we feel it is important to set out how we will manage and mitigate the risk of transmission within our clinic environment.  Measures include pre-screening all patients prior to the appointment, hand hygiene and personal protective equipment and comprehensive consideration of cleaning the treatment room.  The full policy can be seen here.
